Nazyl Báez Finol

Nazyl Báez Finol (born May 20, 1932 in Caracas ) is a Venezuelan composer, conductor and music teacher.

Life

Baéz Finol studied at the Escuela Superior de Música ( Escuela de Música José Ángel Lamas ) with Inocente Carreño , Eduardo Plaza Alfonso , Ángel Sauce , Juan Bautista Plaza , Carmen Teresa Arévalo de Hurtado , Evencio Castellanos and Vicente Emilio Sojo .

She has conducted several choirs, including the Coral Venezuela del Ministerio del Trabajo (1950–58), the Orfeón de la Escuela Normal Miguel Antonio Caro (1953–69), the Orfeón de la Contraloría General de la República (1967–69) and the Children's choir of the Escuela de Música José Ángel Lamas (1975–82). She was also the founder and conductor of the Orfeón del Ministerio de Educación and the Agrupación Polifonía (until 1964).

From 1969 to 1972 she was conductor of the chamber orchestra of the Universidad de Carabobo . As a guest conductor she worked a. a. with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Venezuela , the Filarmónica de Caracas , the Sinfónica Municipal de Caracas and the Orquesta Filarmónica de Jamaica .

Baéz Finol has been actively involved in planning music education in Venezuela since 1968, represented the country at various international music congresses and was a juror at national music competitions such as the Festival de La Voz Liceista de Venezuela (1973) and the Festival de la Voz Venezolana (1975) .

On the occasion of Pope John Paul II's visit to Venezuela in 1985, Baéz Finol led a choir of 1,500 singers at the premiere of her Misa Caraqueña . Since 1986 she worked for the Fundación Vicente Emilio Sojo , first as head of the documentation and archive department, then as head of the editing department; from 1990 she was a member of the foundation's executive board. In 1983 she received the National Prize for Music, in 1988 the Premio Vinicio Adames .
