Miguel Antonio Caro

Miguel Antonio Caro (born November 10, 1843 in Bogotá ; † August 5, 1909 ibid) was Vice President of the Republic of Colombia from 1892 to 1894 and, after the death of Rafael Núñez, until 1898 President of the Republic of Colombia , without holding the title of President. He was instrumental in editing the constitution of 1886.

Due to the political turmoil in his youth, Miguel Antonio Caro was unable to complete an orderly degree and was therefore self-taught. He became an important linguist , philosopher and political theorist . He also translated Virgil into Spanish and wrote poetry.

His philosophical-political attitude was shaped by a Christian-Catholic socialism. His most important works are publications in various newspapers, some of them edited by himself. Books with the collections of his works were mostly published only after his death. Exceptions are his grammars .
