Ndana ( Dana , Nieuw Eiland , Hokki ) is an Indonesian island southwest of Sawu and Raijua ( Lesser Sunda Islands ).

Ndana belongs to the Kabupaten (administrative district) Sawu Raijua in the province of East Nusa Tenggara . According to the definition of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), Ndana is a corner point of the border between Lake Sawu and the Indian Ocean.

Cultural meaning

The otherwise uninhabited island is visited once a year by the residents of the islands of Sawu and Raijua for a ritual ceremony. The Sawunese believe that the spirits of the deceased live on Ndana, which is why the island is otherwise not set foot on, if one disregards occasional visits by tourists.
