Cultural meaning
The otherwise uninhabited island is visited once a year by the residents of the islands of Sawu and Raijua for a ritual ceremony. The Sawunese believe that the spirits of the deceased live on Ndana, which is why the island is otherwise not set foot on, if one disregards occasional visits by tourists.
