Raijua (also: Rai Jua) is an Indonesian island on the border between the Sawu Sea and the Indian Ocean . Together with its larger neighbor Sawu , it forms the group of the Sawu Islands , which belong to the Lesser Sunda Islands .

Sawu is 6 km to the east. To the west is the island of Sumba , north to Flores and east to Timor . Since October 29, 2008, Raijua has been a district ( Kecamatan ) of the Sawu Raijua administrative district of the East Nusa Tenggara Province . Before that, it was part of the Kupang administrative district . The island has an area of ​​36.97 square kilometers, a circumference of about 30 kilometers and is 13 kilometers long.

economy

The island's white sandy beach is interesting for tourists and is also popular for snorkelling. In the dry season from May to October you can surf here, as the waves break on an offshore reef. However, there are no tourist facilities.
