General

The municipality is located about 10 km north of the center of Kananga, the altitude is 612 meters. According to municipal law, it has legislative and executive branches through a city council and a mayor, but not a judiciary. The common languages are French and Tschiluba . After the foundation of Luluaburg (also Luluabourg) as a supply and business station by Hermann von Wissmann , the area of Ndesha belonged to the Congo Free State , then to the Belgian Congo . Smaller excursions were made from Luluaburg to the northern area, the tribes living there were grouped under the name Lulua and together with the Luba they form the main part of the population. In 1897, a Presbyterian mission school, the École Evangélique, was founded in Ndesha. Population or ethnic composition cannot be given, the last official census for the Democratic Republic of the Congo dates from 1982. For Kananga as a whole, only estimates are given today.
