Ndey Yassin Secka-Sallah

Ndey Yassin Secka-Sallah (also Ndey Yassin Secka , born around 1959 in Bathurst, now Banjul ) is a Gambian politician.

Secka-Sallah was born in the Gambian capital and grew up there. She attended Kampama Primary School for the Visually Impaired and graduated from St Joseph High School before studying Brail and Business Development in the UK . She first worked at the Department of Social Welfare , and later as a broadcaster for the Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS).

Secka-Sallah was born blind and worked with the Sightsavers organization, which works for people with visual impairments. In addition, she was involved in the Gambia Organization for the Visually Impaired (GOVI) and was president of this organization.

In April 2017, Secka-Sallah was one of the five people appointed to the Gambian parliament by President Adama Barrow . The Gambian political system provides that 43 of the 48 seats are elected and five seats are allocated by the president. She is the first visually impaired female MP and the second visually impaired MP in Parliament after Abdoulie Saine , who was appointed by President Yahya Jammeh in the previous term . After her appointment, she announced that she would work for the rights of people with disabilities.

Although she was appointed by President Adama Barrow, who is a member of the United Democratic Party (UDP), she stressed her loyalty to the People's Democratic Organization for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS) and refused to join the UDP.

Secka-Sallah has two adult biological children and two adopted children.
