NeXT computer

The NeXT Computer (also called NeXT Computer System ) is a computer workstation that was developed, marketed and sold by the US manufacturer NeXT Inc. He uses the Unix-based NeXTSTEP operating system , derived from Mach and BSD , as the operating system.

The motherboard is square and fits into one of four identical slots in the case. This consists of a 305 mm large, cube-shaped, black magnesium shell, which led to the computer being referred to as " The Cube ". In 1988, the NeXT computer was introduced at a price of $ 6,500 (equivalent to € 11,800 in 2017).

The NeXT computer was replaced by the NeXTcube in 1990 .
