Nebigast was a prince of the Chamavers who lived in the 4th century.

Life

In the years after 350 internal problems, murders, imperial and civil wars led the Roman troops to withdraw from the Germanic border, which led the Germanic tribes of the Franks and Alamanni to invade the Roman Empire and undertake raids. The Chamavers, at that time part of the Franconian tribal association, sent a troop in 358 under the command of Nebigast, the son of the King of the Chamavers, to plunder Lower Germany. It was this force that was captured and defeated by the Charietto , which led to the capture of Nebigast. Subsequently, Emperor Julian negotiated with the Frankish kings and obtained the release of the prisoners in exchange for a withdrawal of the Franks from Roman territory.
