Charietto
Charietto († 365 ) was a German of unusual height and bravery, who was originally the leader of a band of robbers, but later settled peacefully in Augusta Treverorum ( Trier ). In order to do something against the increasing number of attacks by the Germans living east of the Rhine, he fought first around 355 on his own, later in the service of the Roman Caesar Julian against the looters invading Gaul. He fell 365 as a comes in the fight against the Alemanni .
His story is mentioned by Ammianus (17,10,5; 27,1,2–6), Eunapios (fragment 18,3–5 [Blockley]) and Zosimos (3,7).
