Nêçîrvan Barzanî or Nijirfan Barzani ( Arabic نيجيرفان بارزاني, Kurdish نێچیرڤان ئیدریس بارزانی Nêçîrvan Îdrîs Barzanî ; * 1966 in Erbil Governorate ) is a Kurdish politician, former Prime Minister and President of the Autonomous Region of Kurdistan since 2019 . His first name Nêçîrvan means hunter . Barzanî is a grandson of the DPK founder Mustafa Barzani and the son of Idris Barzani . Dilovan Barzani (* 1966 - † April 2, 2018) was his twin brother. Masud Barzani is his uncle. Barzani is married to Nabila Barzani and has 3 sons and 2 daughters.

In 1975 he and his family left Iraq and immigrated to Iran . From 1984 he studied politics at the university in Tehran .

In 1987 his father Idris Barzani died suddenly, whereupon he dropped out of studies. He often accompanied his father on his diplomatic travels, so that even then his future career was indicated.

He became active in the youth department of the DPK and was elected to the central committee of the DPK at its tenth congress in 1989. In 1993 he was re-elected and got a position in the party's Politburo .

After the second Gulf War in 1991, he conducted negotiations with the then Iraqi government. In 1996 he was elected Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdish Parliament in Erbil . Between 1999 and 2009 he was Prime Minister of the regional government. His successor was Barham Salih . Since April 2012 he has been Prime Minister of the Kurdish regional government again.

On May 28, 2019, Nechirvan Barzani was elected President of the Kurdistan Region with 68 votes out of 81 MPs. Nechirvan Barzani was sworn in as President of the Kurdistan Region in June 2019.
