Nedošínský háj
Nedošínský háj is a forest on the banks of the Loučná on the outskirts of Litomyšl in the Czech Republic . It is best known for its history, but it is also an ecologically valuable area and a natural monument .
Originally there was a stately game reserve here , which found its way into written sources as early as the 14th century. From the 17th century it was used as a coppice forest . At the beginning of the 19th century, the owners, the Waldstein-Wartenbergs , redesigned the forest into a landscape park and equipped it with pavilions and other small buildings in the Romantic style . A bath and a restaurant with a dance hall were built on the site and the residents of Litomyšl used the park as a popular destination. In the Czech Republic, Nedošínský háj is best known as the setting for a work by the writer Alois Jirásek . The novel Filozofská historie describes the student May festivals that took place here and the conversion of the commercial forest into a park landscape. In the second half of the 19th century, the park went out of fashion, the buildings fell into disrepair and were demolished. Only a stone chapel with a fountain, which is dedicated to Anthony of Padua, has survived. In 1933 the town of Litomyšl bought the property. In 1940, representatives of the settlements in Litomyšl declared the forest a bird and plant protection area, which the German occupying forces did not accept. Immediately after the end of the Second World War, the sanctuary was renewed by the city administration. In 1949 the forest received the status of a nature reserve with a size of 30.73 hectares. It has been a natural monument since 1992.
In the present, the flat hill is made up of a sessile oak and hornbeam forest, which merges into an alder , ash and hardwood meadow in the north on the river bank . The oaks are up to 300 years old. The original use favored a relatively natural composition of the vegetation. A nature trail with nine stations leads through the forest .
