Nehemiah Gateway gGmbH (NG). is an international aid organization with employees from different nations who, through their common understanding of values, see themselves as responsible for sustainably improving the living conditions of people in need. This help is provided to people regardless of their ethnicity, worldview or religion. The focus is on helping people to help themselves .

Emergence

Nehemiah Gateway was founded in November 2010 as a non-profit company with headquarters in Nuremberg and offices in Berlin and Boulder, Colorado (USA). It emerges from the NEHEMIA work in Albania , which has existed since 1992 .

The NEHEMIA Foundation Albania itself was brought into being by Arnold Geiger, co-founder of Nehemiah Gateway gGmbH, together with his family, friends and supporters. The team has been organizing voluntary aid transports to various countries since the 1980s. The NEHEMIA Foundation was created with the will to maintain this in the long term.

During the 1997 riots, all projects that had been set up in Albania up to that point were destroyed. The Nehemiah team stayed on site. During the Kosovo crisis in 1999, Nehemia organized the care of around 4,000 refugees in cooperation with the government, the UNHCR and other international organizations. Since then, the work has grown steadily: therapy centers for children with special needs, day care centers, care services for the elderly, soup kitchens and social services. Over the years, a range of educational opportunities has emerged that today ranges from kindergarten to Nehemiah Gateway University.

Mission statement of the organization

"Helping people to determine their own life with dignity and independence and to shape it sustainably."

Building blocks and core values

The work of Nehemiah Gateway is based on the following four pillars:

Medical and social help
Nehemiah Gateway is of the opinion that physical and psychological help as well as social support enable people to take care of their own care independently.

Education and training
In the eyes of Nehemiah Gateway, education is the starting point for sustainable self-sufficiency and thus also an essential basis for human dignity. (But: Human dignity is NOT dependent on education, education is NOT a basis for dignity!)

Project Empowerment
With Project Empowerment, Nehemiah Gateway helps through targeted support to turn initiatives into sustainable and successful companies in the sense of " helping people to help themselves "

Implementation of core values
Nehemiah Gateway takes the view that helping people to help themselves can only work if the communication and acceptance of core values are ensured in parallel and in a sustainable manner.

Nehemiah Gateway gGmbH is responsible for all projects. The differentiation between individual projects is made by naming the projects accordingly. The names of the projects are accordingly composed of "Nehemiah Gateway" and the respective project (e.g. Nehemiah Gateway University, Nehemiah Gateway Ambulance, ...).

Albania

The "Nehemiah Gateway Albania" Foundation has been working in Albania since 1991. There are now several Nehemiah Gateway Centers, where hundreds of people are helped through social work, assistance, medicine and education.

Social support

From the beginning, Nehemiah Gateway has invested in medical and social assistance. In the Nehemiah Gateway outpatient clinic in Buçimas and in a physiotherapy center founded by Nehemiah Gateway in Has / Northern Albania, free treatments and medical training are carried out. A mobile care service cares for the elderly and disabled. Food programs are offered in Pogradec, Gjirokaster and Peshkepi. In addition, Nehemiah Gateway organizes medical treatment abroad in particularly difficult cases.

Christian parishes emerged, predominantly of a Protestant direction. Numerous summer camps for children and several boy scout groups take place every year.

Educational institutions

Nehemiah Gateway sees education as one of the foundations for long-term help for self-help. For this reason, the organization has established numerous educational institutions.

Kindergartens, elementary, secondary and evening schools as well as various professional training programs. The Nehemiah Gateway University has existed since 2008. Since 2010 the courses “Economy & Businesses” (Bachelor of Arts) and “Leadership and Assessment in Education” (Master of Science) have been offered. The degrees are recognized in three countries: In Germany by the accreditation agency FIBAA (Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation), in the USA by the agency TRACS (institutional accreditation) and in Albania by the Albanian Public Accreditation Agency, whereby the recognition of the Master's Course is still in progress.

The educational institutions in Albania as part of the Nehemiah Gateway Group are increasingly becoming an international training center for managers from a wide variety of countries. This applies in particular to the dual course “Economy & Businesses” at the Nehemiah Gateway University. The concepts that have been tried and tested in Germany are used in an adapted form as dynamic development components for the economy and education in Albania, other European countries, Africa and Central America, in each case in close cooperation with international partner companies.

In the Amaro Tan School, children from the Roma population receive education (kindergarten, elementary and secondary school) as well as medical care and treatment. The school is also a place of refuge from child trafficking and abuse and offers regular meals. The students can also go to the NEHEMIA Gymnasium or the Nehemiah Gateway University.

Greece

In the city of Kalamata (Peloponnese region), Nehemiah Gateway is counteracting the devastating consequences of the economic crisis with the support of the local Serbian Orthodox Monastery Metamorphosis and the aid organization GAIA. This includes supplying impoverished families with food and clothing, and supporting volunteer fire and rescue services.

Tanzania

In Kemondo (Bukoba district) there is a collaboration with a partner school in an orphan village. Nehemiah Gateway supports the training and further education of teachers and other responsible persons in the country. An educational laboratory with laptops, software and the Internet was set up, which in future will also enable further training for teachers and managers at the Nehemiah Gateway University via virtual platforms. In addition, finances were made available for the construction of a school building.

Leadership training

Nehemiah Gateway invests in leadership training. This applies to both teacher training courses, as is currently being pursued in Tanzania, as well as training and further training for people with leadership qualities. In practice, this is done with the help of the Nehemiah Gateway University in Albania, via the Internet or through a grant on site. At the Nehemiah Gateway University, students from Albania, Uganda from South Sudan, Tanzania and Mexico are enrolled in the "Economy & Businesses" course.
