Neil Gray (born March 16, 1986 in the Orkney Islands ) is a Scottish politician of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Life

Gray was born and raised in the Orkney Islands. From 2004 he studied political science and journalism at the University of Stirling . He then worked as a journalist for the BBC . Gray then moved to the press office of the SNP in the Scottish Parliament . From 2008 he worked for the SNP MP Alex Neil and became his office manager in 2011.

Gray is married and has one daughter.

Political career

In the British general election in 2015 , Gray ran for the SNP in the constituency of Airdrie and Shotts . He competed against Labor MP Pamela Nash , who had represented the constituency in the British House of Commons since 2010 . After the SNP gained massive votes in these elections, Gray achieved the highest percentage of votes and subsequently moved into the House of Commons for the first time. There he is a member of the finance committee. In the 2017 general election , Gray defended his mandate despite losing votes.
