Neil Parish

Neil Parish (born May 26, 1956 in Bridgwater , Somerset ) is a British Conservative Party politician and has been a member of the House of Commons since 2010 . He was previously a member of the European Parliament from 1999 to 2009 .

Parish initially worked as a farmer in Somerset and entered politics through various local government offices. After being elected to the European Parliament in the 1999 European elections in 2001 he was spokesman for the Christian Democrat-Conservative faction EPP-ED in agricultural issues and a member of the Group Bureau. In 2007 he became Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development and was a member of the Committee on Fisheries .

After the European elections in 2009 Parish left the European Parliament. A year later, he won a seat in the 2010 British general election .

Neil Parish is married with one son and one daughter.
