Fisheries Committee

The Committee on Fisheries (PECH) is one of the 20 standing committees of the European Parliament .

The areas of responsibility of the committee are defined in a self-description as:

"1. the functioning and development of the common fisheries policy and its management;
2. the conservation of fish stocks;
3. the common organization of the market in fishery products;
4. Structural policies in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors, including financial instruments for fisheries guidance;
5. the international fisheries agreement. "

The Commissioner for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs and his Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries as well as the Council for Agriculture and Fisheries , which is sometimes incorrectly abbreviated as the Fisheries Committee, are assigned to the Committee .

Current electoral term

In the 9th electoral term since February 19, 2020, the board of the committee consists of the chairman Pierre Karleskind ( ReM / RE ) and the deputy chairmen Peter van Dalen ( CU / EPP ), Søren Gade ( Venstre / RE), Giuseppe Ferrandino ( PD / S&D ) and Cláudia Monteiro de Aguiar ( PSD / EVP). After the UK left the EU , the chairmanship was vacant at short notice, as the previous chairman Chris Davies left Parliament. The post remained with the Renew Europe group.

The committee consists of seven EPP, six S&D, four RE, three ID , three G / EFA , two EKR , one GUE / NGL MP and two non-attached members. Then there are the deputy members.
