Struan Stevenson
Struan Stevenson (born April 4, 1948 in Ballantrae , Ayrshire ) is a Scottish politician ( Conservative Party ).
Stevenson received an honorary doctorate in science from the West of Scotland Agricultural College and the State Medical Academy in Semipalatinsk , Kazakhstan . He was then director of an agricultural and tourism company, the Demarco Gallery in Edinburgh , a study group on international foreign affairs and defense, and the Public Affairs Consultant in Edinburgh and Belfast .
Stevenson was chairman of the Association of Scottish Conservative Candidates for Parliament from 1992 to 1997 and chairman of the Committee on Arts and Heritage. He later became a spokesperson for environmental issues, transport, media and the arts and chairman of the Tuesday Club.
In 1999, Stevenson was elected to the European Parliament for the first time and was a member until 2014. In his first term, he was Vice-Chair of the Intergroup on Sustainable Development and Co-Chair of the Council of MEPs and Industrialists. From 2002 to 2004 he was chairman of the Committee on Fisheries and later of the delegation for EU relations with Iraq . He is also campaigning for a ban on imports of products made from cat fur and dog fur from China to the European Union , which has now been adopted .
Stevenson was made an honorary citizen of the city of Semipalatinsk in 2003 , recognizing his humanitarian work.
