Nekā ( Persian نکا) is a small town in the Iranian province of Māzandarān , about 20 kilometers east of Sāri .
history
The city gained greater fame after the then 16-year-old Atefah Sahaaleh was innocently sentenced to death there by an Islamic court in 2004. The execution was carried out in public.
traffic
Nekā has a port on the Caspian Sea . Since Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan have no access to the world's oceans, they export part of their oil through this port.
The city has a station on the Trans-Iranian Railway .
economy
The city is the final destination of a pipeline running from Tehran . Tanks and a corresponding oil terminal have also been set up in the small town. This means that Iran can not only export its crude oil via the neighboring countries, but also currently in relatively small quantities via the Caspian Sea to Russia.
The Tehran-Neka pipeline has a capacity of 250,000 to 300,000 barrels of oil per day. A first export contract has already been signed with Russia. There the delivery of initially 100,000 barrels of crude oil per day was agreed.
