The necropolis of Cistas das Casas Velhas (also called Casas Velhas for short) is located south of Melides near Grândola in the Setúbal district in Estremadura in Portugal .

Casas Velhas is a fully restored Bronze Age necropolis made up of two groups of large stone boxes. It was discovered in the early 1970s and excavated by archaeologists C. Tavares da Silva and Joaquina Soares. It was classified as an IIP - Estate of Public Interest in 1990.

The necropolis consists of two core areas of 30 m² each. All stone boxes have a rectangular floor plan, the majority of which consists of four slates of slate, which are covered with a monolithic lid.

The different boxes are arranged to give the group the appearance of a honeycomb. This was interpreted (as in the nearby Necropolis do Pessegueiro ) as a social reflection of a culture that, although already structured hierarchically, still had a structure that was largely based on kinship relationships and referred to as Southwest Bronze ( Portuguese Bronze do Sudoeste ) becomes.

The Dolmen da Pedra Branca is about 450 m away .
