Nelson Hubert Minnich

Nelson Hubert Minnich (born January 15, 1942 in Cincinnati ) is an American Catholic church historian .

Life

He studied at Boston College (1963–65: Philosophy), at Xavier University (1959–63: Humanities), Boston College, Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, 1963–65: BA in Philosophy 1965, MA in History 1966, theology at the Pontificia Università Gregoriana 1968–1970, bachelor's degree in 1970 and history at Harvard University (1970–77), PhD there with the dissertation Episcopal Reform at the Fifth Lateran Council (1512–17). From 1966 to 1968 he taught as an instructor in World and American History and in Civics at the Loyola Academy. From 1972 to 1973 he was a teaching assistant and from 1974 to 1977 a teaching fellow at Harvard University. From 1977 to 1983 he was Assistant Professor at the Catholic University of America (1983–1993 Associate Professor and since 1993 Full Professor in the Department of History and Church History).

His focus is on the history of the Renaissance, the history of the Reformation and the history of the Council, in particular the history of the 5th Lateran Council.
