Neneh Cham

Neneh MC Cham (also: Neneh Cham-Chongan ) is a Gambian lawyer and human rights activist .

Life

Cham was admitted to the bar in the Gambia and Sierra Leone in November 2000 . Shortly thereafter, she started working for the law firm and opposition politician Ousainou Darboe's BasangSang Chambers and was employed by him for about two years. From 2006 she was self-employed as a lawyer.

In June 2006 she was elected to the board of the Gambia Bar Association (GBA).

From October 2011 she was President of the women's rights organization Female Lawyers Association Gambia (FLAG). She succeeded Janet Sallah-Njie . Her successor on February 12, 2016 was Haddy Dandeh-Jabbie . However, Cham was still active on the board.

Since at least July 2017 she has been a member of the board of the Gambia Bar Association (GBA) again.

In July and August 2018, she was vice-chair of a commission set up by President Adama Barrow to investigate the background of a police operation in the protests in Faraba Banta on June 18, 2018, in which three people died.

In May 2019, she appeared as Chair of the National Agency for Legal Aid (NALA).
