The Neoplan N 4021 is an articulated bus model of the N40 series from the German manufacturer G. Auwärter for city driving with drive to the rear axle ( articulated pusher ).
history
As early as 1987, Neoplan presented two prototypes of the low-floor articulated bus, this was called the N 421 SG II / 3N and went to the Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG). In 1989 the Kölner Verkehrs-Betriebe (KVB) acquired the first 5 low-floor buses of the type N421 SGIII. This type consisted of a low-floor front section and a high-floor rear section. It was then designated as N 4021 and succeeded the Neoplan N 421 . The first larger series with 35 vehicles went to the Bremer Straßenbahn AG (BSAG) in 1988. Door 1 and door 2 were completely stepless, only after the hinge, i.e. door 3 and door 4 (if present), were provided with a step , the seats were all arranged on pedestals. As early as 1989/90, Neoplan built its low-floor buses with the window edge pulled down between door 1 and door 2. In this area, the seats were no longer arranged on platforms. From 1992/93 Neoplan low-floor buses were given a new front. From 1997 the N 4021 was delivered with a window edge that was pulled down completely to the rear, the third door was now also stepless. A version with a shortened trailer, the N 4018, was built especially for Stadtwerke Wilhelmshaven . The N 4021 was also built under license from Neoplan Polska for the Eastern European market.
Furnishing
It has a low-floor entry and exit at the front and middle door, which is why it is also known as a low-floor articulated bus . A motorized wheelchair ramp at the front door makes this bus suitable for the disabled. In the middle door area there is space for a wheelchair or two strollers. Customers could also optionally order a natural gas engine, which is why the name was changed to N 4021 CNG.
commitment
The N 4021 was used by various German transport companies, but has since been largely replaced by newer vehicles. The KVB had 10 vehicles of this type. Today these vehicles are mainly still in use in Eastern Europe. In 1999 the production of the N 4021 was stopped, followed by the further developed type Neoplan N 4421 .
It was available in different versions, u. a. with the front of the Neoplan N 416 .
