Neopomacentrus is a genus of damselfish (Pomacentridae) thatoccursin the tropical Indo- Pacific . The scientific name of the genus is made up of the Greek “néos”, νέος (“new”, “fresh”, “young”) and the name of the damselfishgenus Pomacentrus and was given because of the similarity between the two genera.
features
Neopomacentrus species are relatively elongated and become 6 to 11 cm long, with the body length reaching 2.2 to 2.8 times the body height. The soft-rayed, rear sections of the dorsal and anal fin, as well as the two lobes of the indented to crescent-shaped caudal fin are pointed. The edge of the preoperculum is smooth or slightly indented. The jaws are covered with two rows of teeth. The outer row of teeth have flattened or notched tips. Most Neopomacentrus species live in coral reefs , Neopomacentrus aquadulcis and Neopomacentrus taeniurus also live in brackish and fresh water.
