The statue of Nepomuk in front of the Holy Trinity Church

The statue of Nepomuk in the Polish city of Gliwice is the oldest sculpture in the city , together with the figure of Neptune in the Neptune Fountain .

The late baroque Nepomuk figure, like the Neptune figure, was made by the Troppau sculptor Johannes Nitsche. It was created in 1794 and was originally set up next to a bridge over the Ostroppka in the suburb of Beuthen. This was located east of the old town of Gleiwitz. The sculpture depicts St. John Nepomuk , the patron saint of water, who is supposed to protect against floods. Nepomuk statues were often placed near rivers, ponds, lakes and on bridges.

Today the statue of Nepomuk is in front of the Armenian Holy Trinity Church on Mikołowska Street in the city center.
