Old town in Gliwice
The area of the old town in Gliwice corresponds to the historical city center .
The old town has the shape of an oval, the outermost streets of which are ulica Dolnych Wałów (Niederwallstraße) and ulica Górnych Wałów (Oberwallstraße). The streets within this oval are laid out like a chessboard, in the middle of which is the so-called ring , the square market square of the old town.
The old town had an axis of 386 m and covers an area of 9.1 ha.
The oval floor plan was surrounded by a city wall, of which only a few remains are left. It had two gates: the Ratiborer Tor (also Black Gate) and the Beuthener Tor (White Gate), 29 towers (bastions) and had a height of nine meters, a width of 1.2 m and a length of 1125 m.
