Fountain of Neptune (Trento)
The Neptune Fountain (ital. Fontana del Nettuno ) is a fountain on the cathedral square of Trento .
The baroque fountain was built from Lavarone between 1767 and 1769 based on a design by Francesco Antonio Giongo (1720–1776) (called "the hunchback") and stands almost in the middle of the square. The plaque on the fountain bears the inscription Magnificum hunc fontem cum aquarum perpetuo cursu, de Sperantibus omnibus, Franciscus Antonius Jongo tridentinus fecit.
The bronze statue of Neptune by Andrea Malfatti is a replica of the stone original that was removed in 1942. The original statue of Francesco Antonio Giongo is in the courtyard of the city hall.
The anniversary fountain made of red Main sandstone in the Elberfeld district of Wuppertal, created 1900–1901 by the Düsseldorf sculptor Leo Müsch (1846–1911), is a replica of the Neptune fountain in Trento.
