Nerses IV. Schnorhali (the gifted) or Nerses of Kla ( lat. Nerses Clajensis ), (* 1102 at Tzovk Castle , ( Elazığ (province) ); † 1173 ) was " Catholicos of the Armenians " based in Hromkla and the most prominent Armenian Theologian and poet of his time.

Nerses IV belonged to the Pahlawuni dynasty . He received his monk name (after St. Nerses I. Parthev ) and his training in the Red Monastery ( Karmir Vank ) near Kessoun (today Çakırhüyük, Besni, Adıyaman Province ). His brother Gregory III. Pahlawuni was elected Catholicos in 1113 and anointed. Nerses Schnorhali was ordained a priest by him in 1120 and a bishop in 1125. After his elevation to Catholicos in 1166, he continued his brother's ecumenical talks with the Byzantine and Latin Churches.
