Nerva forum

The Nerva Forum (also Forum Transitorium ) was the third of the four imperial forums in Rome . Its construction began under Emperor Vespasian or Domitian . However, it was not completed, consecrated and named after him until 97 AD under Nerva .

The forum was located between the Augustus forum and Vespasian's temple of peace with its forecourt, which is why it is also called the Forum Transitorium (German: "Transit forum "). It also formed the link between the Argiletum and the Roman Forum . In the northeast of the approximately 120 × 45 m large square was a temple dedicated to Minerva , which was demolished in 1606 under Pope Paul V and used as building material for the fountain of the Acqua Paola and the Cappella Borghese in Santa Maria Maggiore .

In the southeast, a columned hall encompassed the forum, of which only two Corinthian columns and the wall behind them have survived. At the top of this are the fragments of a frieze depicting the virtues of Roman women, and in the attic zone above another, larger relief depicting Minerva.

The Forum Transitorium has been divided into two parts with Via dei Fori Imperiali since it was built over .
