Neurologist

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Neurologist was the official short name for a specialist in neurology . With the abolition of the abbreviations for the granting of specialist titles, the abbreviation for neuroscientists was dropped at the end of 1989. In common parlance, psychiatrists or neurologists are called neurologists .

In technical terms, the name is identical to the specialist in psychiatry and neurology . Today the field of activity of the neurologist is largely covered by the specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy .

In contrast to the specialist in neurology or the specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy , the training periods for neurology were shorter in the two individual subjects, most recently 3 years each instead of the otherwise required 4 years and 1 year in the complementary subject (e.g. 4 years neurology and 1 year Psychiatry for the specialist in neurology). In the meantime, the specialist in neurology can no longer be acquired in any German medical association, so-called dual specialists must acquire both titles separately or in two specialist examinations.

The publication Der Nervenarzt , a specialist journal for neurology, psychiatry and neurology , has been published since 1928 .
