Brachial plexus with dorsal scapular nerve

The dorsal scapular nerve (posterior scapula nerve ) is a motor nerve of the arm plexus ( brachial plexus ). It has its origin in the fourth and fifth neck segments of the spinal cord (C4-C5). It belongs to the pars supraclavicularis of the brachial plexus.

After its isolation from the arm plexus, the nerve passes through the musculus scalenus medius and runs under the musculus levator scapulae to the medial edge of the shoulder blade . Here it innervates the musculus rhomboideus major , the musculus rhomboideus minor and the musculus levator scapulae in humans , in domestic animals the musculus rhomboideus thoracis and musculus rhomboideus cervicis accordingly .
