The musculus rhomboideus minor ( Latin , literally "smaller diamond-shaped muscle") is a skeletal muscle and belongs to the back muscles . The name arises from the fact that as a smaller rhomboid together with the large rhomboid ( rhomboid major muscle ) a diamond forms.

The muscle arises from the spinous processes of the last two cervical vertebrae and attaches to the back edge of the shoulder blade. The musculus rhomboideus minor lies above the musculus rhomboideus major, both are covered by the musculus trapezius . Together with this muscle, it attaches the shoulder blade to the thorax and pulls it towards the back.

Pets

There is no direct equivalent for the rhomboideus minor muscle in veterinary anatomy. A distinction is made here between two rhomboid muscles located on the neck :

The musculus rhomboideus cervicis ("diamond-shaped muscle of the neck") arises in dogs , cats and pigs on the back connecting line of the neck muscles of both sides, in horses and ruminants on the neck ligament (ligamentum nuchae). It is a strip-shaped muscle band on the back of the neck.

The musculus rhomboideus capitis ("diamond-shaped muscle of the head") is a narrow splitting of the musculus rhomboideus cervicis at the level of the fourth cervical vertebra in dogs, cats and pigs, which leads to the crest of the neck ( Crista nuchae ) of the occiput .
