Nessa Childers
Nessa Childers (born October 9, 1956 in Dublin ) is an Irish politician and former member of the European Parliament for the constituency Ireland East for the Irish Labor Party , as a member of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament .
Nessa Childers is the daughter of former Irish President Erskine Hamilton Childers and his wife Rita Childers. In 2004 she joined the Irish Labor Party. However, when she was not a candidate for Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council in the 2004 local elections , she left the party and joined the Green Party , for which she was a member of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council from June 2004 to August 2008 .
The Irish Labor Party to be successful in September 2008 moved Childers again in June 2009 as its candidate in the elections for the European Parliament to begin. In 2013 she left the party (and the social democratic group S&D) because of their participation in government. She was elected as an independent candidate in the 2014 European elections and subsequently rejoined the S&D parliamentary group. In 2019 she did not run again and therefore left Parliament.
She is the mother of two children.
Tasks in the EU Parliament
Childers is a member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and the Delegation for Relations with Japan . As a deputy, she is on the Committee for Culture and Education .
