Nessie (motorcycle)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Nessies were long-distance racing motorcycles from the English racing team Mead & Tomkinson from Hereford . The name of the motorcycles was derived from the Loch Ness monster because of their unusual appearance .

technology

The Nessie Mk1 was developed in 1974 using the engine of a modified Laverda 1000 3C as drive . The front wheel guidance was - unusual for a racing motorcycle - a wheel hub steering based on the Difazio system . This racing motorcycle was used in endurance races until 1976.

In 1977 Mead & Tomkinson developed the Nessie Mk2 . A Kawasaki engine served as the drive here; the fuel tank was under the motorcycle frame . What was unusual about this machine was the difazio wheel hub steering and the suspension of the rear wheel with the help of an unorthodox swing arm construction.

In October 2007 the Nessie Mk1 sold at Bonhams for £ 12,650 .
