Neto (god)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Neto , also Netos or Netus , is the name of a Celtiberian god of war who was worshiped in the area of Cadix and Trujillo . Neto was equated in the Interpretatio Romana with the Roman god Mars . His name is known from three inscriptions.

The name can be connected with the proto-Indo-European root * nei-t- ("fight"), possibly also with the Anglo-Saxon niď ("envy"). A connection with the Irish legendary figure Neit would therefore be possible.
