Net boat

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A network boot is generally understood to be an operating system that is booted over the network .

This type of loading of an operating system is always necessary if the computer does not have a local operating system (on the hard drive , a compact disc or a floppy disk ). This occurs with diskless computers (e.g. some blade servers ). Terminals also known as thin clients , which only have a screen , input devices and minimal additional hardware, are booted over the network.

At startup, all relevant code is transported over the network and then executed on the computer.
