Netzkino is a video-on-demand portal of Spotfilm Networx GmbH (previously Netzkino Services GmbH ) based in Berlin . The streaming service originally started as a YouTube film channel. The provider then developed its own applications step by step and expanded the network cinema into a multi-platform service. Users can stream the films offered free of charge via the Netzkino website and apps for iOS , Android , Windows or watch them directly on the television via the Smart TV app. In addition to some well-known feature films, Netzkino specializes primarily in niche and genre cinema.

history

Netzkino was founded by Peter von Ondarza and started in April 2010 initially as a YouTube film channel.

The company later also began developing its own applications for various end devices. By the end of 2014, Netzkino had been expanded into a cross-platform streaming service. Since then, users have been able to stream the provider's films on their own website, via apps for various mobile devices and on smart TVs. Netzkino was the first provider on the German VOD market to legally make film content available for free streaming.

At the end of 2012, Netzkino Services UG was converted into Netzkino Services GmbH, whose managing director has been Hauk Markus since the beginning of 2015.

In 2014, Netzkino made more than 1,500 films available on its YouTube channel and had 250,000 subscribers. The number of YouTube fans had doubled by 2017 and, according to the industry magazine InfoDigital, Netzkino is with "a total of 13 million video views and six million unique users per month [...] the largest social media feature film community in Germany". In early 2018, the provider's YouTube channel had more than 700,000 subscribers.

In June 2017 Netzkino Services GmbH was awarded the TOP 100 seal as an innovation leader among German medium-sized companies.

Business model

Netzkino is a free film streaming service and is available in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. The service is financed through advertising and also introduced the paid subscription service NetzkinoPlus at the end of 2017.
