Hans Kaiser (education officer)

Hans Kaiser (born February 19, 1919 in Magdeburg ; † July 25, 1998 ) was a German educator and educational functionary in the GDR . From 1961 to 1970 he was Deputy Minister for Popular Education .

Life

Kaiser, son of a worker, attended elementary school, learned the trade of mechanic and then worked in the profession. In 1937 he was drafted into the RAD and in 1938 into the Wehrmacht , of which he was a member until 1945.

After the Second World War he became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). He studied vocational education and was then an assistant at the Technical University of Dresden . Kaiser was promoted to Dr. paed. PhD. From September 1, 1955 to 1959, he was entrusted with teaching vocational education at the TH Dresden. In February 1959 he was appointed professor and director of the German Central Pedagogical Institute of the GDR (DPZI). In June 1961 he was replaced in this office by Gerhart Neuner and took over the function of deputy minister for public education with responsibility for vocational training. In June 1963 he was appointed a member of the Agriculture Council of the GDR.

Kaiser was an advocate of military education in schools. In May 1969 he was at the head of a GDR delegation for a ten-day stay in Finland and held talks with the Finnish Minister of Education, Johannes Virolainen, about the restructuring and further development of the school system in both countries. At the end of the visit, he told the press in Helsinki that the exchange of experiences had been extremely useful. He was able to establish "that the education system of the GDR arouses lively interest among Finnish experts". From September 1970 to 1985 he was Vice President of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the GDR (APW).
