Gerhart Neuner

Gerhart Neuner (born June 18, 1929 in Pschoblik , District Podersam ; † January 5, 2008 in Zeuthen ) was President of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the GDR from 1970 to 1989 . He was a member of the Central Committee of the SED.

Life and functions

The son of a Sudeten German carpenter attended the teacher training college in Lobositz from 1943 . In 1946 the family was expelled from there and came to the Salzwedel district . Neuner completed a course as a new teacher in Wittenberge . He joined the Free German Youth and in 1949 the Socialist German Unity Party . From 1949 he studied chemistry and biology at the pedagogical faculty of the University of Halle / Saale. In 1952 Neuner became senior consultant for children and youth organizations at the German Central Pedagogical Institute (DPZI) in the GDR. 1953 to 1956 followed an aspirantur in Leningrad , which he completed with a doctorate. Neuner then became editor-in-chief of the specialist journal Pädagogik and in 1961 director of the DPZI, which in 1970 was upgraded to the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the GDR (APW). Neuner completed his habilitation in Leningrad in 1970 and was appointed director of the APW, in 1972 also a member of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR . His political career led from candidate (1963) to member (1976) in the Central Committee of the SED . He was released after the peaceful revolution in the GDR . Neuner was a member of the Leibniz Society of Sciences in Berlin .
