Mesh needle

The net needle is a tool used to make nets (e.g. fishing nets and hammocks ) by hand and to repair damaged nets. It picks up the net yarn and is similar in shape to a shuttle .
Net needles are made of wood , metal , bone or plastic in different sizes . They represent a flat part which is pointed at one end, notched at the other end and provided in the middle with an opening with a spike. In this way, the thread can be wound up - actually: reeled up - inside the needle.
When tying, the Schotstek is mainly used as a knot today. In Roman times , the square knot was in use instead and is still in use in the Far East .
Making nets by hand has been used for the production of unusually shaped and small nets such as B. held as a ball mount on pool tables and nets behind aircraft seats.
Net needles are also used in hand weaving for certain techniques such as tablet weaving , ribbon weaving , brooching and soumak loops .
