The Netzwerk Mode Textil (spelling: netzwerk mode textil e.V.) represents the interests of cultural-scientific textile, clothing and fashion research in German-speaking countries.

founding

The network was founded in 2008 on the initiative of Jutta Beder , Elisabeth Hackspiel and Gundula Wolter . The non-profit association has been registered in the register of associations of the Berlin-Charlottenburg District Court since July 14, 2008 . The netzwerk mode textil e presented itself under the motto intelligent connections . V. to the public for the first time with a multi-day kick-off event in March 2009. Since then, the network has been an interdisciplinary forum for researchers and creatives from German-speaking countries who are concerned with the cultural history and cultural studies of clothing , fashion and textiles .

activities

The netzwerk mode textil supports textile, clothing and fashion research as well as interdisciplinary projects. Members include not only private individuals from the relevant disciplines, but also universities, colleges, training centers and museums from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The network bundles information on the latest publications, international exhibitions and specialist conferences and offers bibliographies on the cultural history of clothing and fashion. Current reports of events and book reviews by experts are made available for those interested on the club's website.

The network provides regular information about exhibitions and other events on the subject of clothing and fashion. Members meet for a jour fixe in different cities, such as Berlin, Frankfurt and Hamburg . A general meeting takes place annually at changing locations. An extensive accompanying program for members and guests with visits to exhibitions, depots, archives, workshops, theater funds, etc. is offered.

Since May 2018 there has been an nmt database with which the association provides information on research work with a focus on clothing, fashion and textiles. Magister, diploma and master's theses as well as dissertations and post-doctoral theses on these topics from 2000 to the present are recorded. The nmt database serves to promote research on this matter and is continuously expanded.

Publications

The network promotes and publishes publications on textile, clothing and fashion research in the field of cultural studies. The series of publications intelligent-verbindungen.de has existed as an open access publication since 2011. Two conference volumes have been published so far, Volume 3 is due to appear in spring 2020. In addition, the network has been publishing the nmt yearbook since 2017, with contributions from members from theory and practice. Dissertations and habilitation theses by networkers can also be posted as open access on the association's website.
