Newly increased historical and geographic general lexicon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The newly augmented historical and geographic general encyclopedia is a six-volume encyclopedia , published and printed by the Basler Verlag Brandmüller. The editor of the first edition, published in 1726 and 1727, was Jacob Christoph Iselin ; the two supplement volumes appeared in 1742 and 1744. The lexicon follows the tradition of the historical lexicon of Johann Franz Buddeus . "Dißmahlen completely overlooked again with diligence", it was "cleaned up" from a large number of errors in the older lexicons and, in particular, articles relating to Switzerland were "increased by a large number". The third edition was published in 1742 by Johannes Brandmüller the Elder Heir and printed by Johannes Christ, later “by Johannes Christ sel. Wittib”. The additions to the third edition were provided by the Basel theologian and historian Jakob Christoph Beck and the Basel pastor August Johann Buxtorf .
