New line Troisdorf – Mainz-Bischofsheim

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The new Troisdorf – Mainz-Bischofsheim line is a long-term plan for the construction of a new freight line on the right bank of the Rhine between Troisdorf and Mainz-Bischofsheim in order to relieve the Rhine Valley from the burden of freight trains.

Basic idea

In order to effectively relieve the residents of the Middle Rhine Valley from freight traffic noise, but above all to achieve an increase in capacity and a reduction in travel times in freight transport between Cologne and Bonn and Mainz / Wiesbaden , a new freight transport line in the Troisdorf - Mainz-Bischofsheim corridor with connecting curves to Koblenz is im Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2030 (BVWP 2030) planned in the potential need (project 2-004-V04). In the direction of the Ruhr area , an upgraded Troisdorf – Gremberg line is to be added to the new line . The project was not included in the priority needs.

If implemented, the connection would be part of the new Rhine-Alpine Corridor (trans-European networks), which is to lead from Rotterdam , Amsterdam and Antwerp to Genoa .
