history

As early as the beginning of the 9th century, the St. Gallen Abbey already owned grounds and a church in what is now Tosters. The church is first mentioned in a document in 1045. The original parish church was dedicated to St. Cornelius. In 1835 a chapel was built in the valley. In 1879 the chapel was torn down and a large new building was built. From 1970 to 1972 Guntram Mätzler drew plans for a new church. The old church was demolished in 1976 except for the steeple. The new church was consecrated in 1977.

architecture

The church was built in connection with the parish center and the old church tower. The church tower is divided into storeys by three cornices. The upper floor is a little narrower and has round-arched, coupled sound windows . Above it is a gable-pointed helmet. The church stands on a square floor plan with a surrounding cornice and two distinctive saddle roof structures.

Church interior

Inside, the church forms a single room with glass paintings in the baptistery. The depiction of the "Baptism of Christ" was painted by Ruiter-Häusle.

Furnishing

The portal with a bronze relief was made by Aldo Jahn in 1973 . On the back wall of the altar there is a group of pests . St. Cornelius is depicted on the left and St. Cyprian on the right. In the baptistery there is an enthroned statue of the Madonna and Child from 1470. The figures of St. Dorothea and St. Jerome date from the beginning of the 16th century.
