The New Synagogue in Třebíč (German Trebitsch ), a town in the Okres Třebíč in the Czech Republic , is also known as the Rear Synagogue , High Synagogue or Upper House of Prayer . It was built around 1669 in the Renaissance style. After the Old Synagogue , it was the second large synagogue in the town.

There was considerable damage as early as 1693, which was only repaired between 1705 and 1707. The renovation work was carried out in the Baroque style .

Since the congregation had shrunk considerably due to emigration from the former Jewish quarter , it was no longer used for worship from the 1920s , but was converted into a warehouse. It stayed that way after the Second World War . During these years the building suffered considerable damage.

Restoration work began in the late 1980s. Original paintings and Bible texts in Hebrew from 1705, which had been whitewashed over time, were also rediscovered and restored.

The special feature of the synagogue was that access to the women's rooms was only possible via a staircase in the privately owned neighboring house.

Today the building is a protected cultural monument and is used as an exhibition and concert hall. As part of the former Jewish quarter, it has been included on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2003 .
