New Orthodox Synagogue (Košice)
The New Orthodox Synagogue in Košice , a city in eastern Slovakia , was built in 1926/27. The synagogue on Puškinova Street in the historical center of the city is a protected architectural monument .
history
The synagogue was built according to the plans of the architect Ludwig Oelschläger (1896–1984) and inaugurated in 1927. It offers space for 800 worshipers. The synagogue has been extensively renovated in recent years.
Today the synagogue is only used on the high Jewish holidays. Otherwise, the services take place in a prayer room on Zvonarská Street.
Commemoration
On the wall of the Orthodox Synagogue in Košice there is a memorial plaque in memory of the city's Jewish citizens who were deported and murdered during the Second World War .
