Neuer Markt 2 (Stralsund)

The house with the postal address Neuer Markt 2 is a listed building in the Hanseatic city of Stralsund on the Neuer Markt .
The building was erected at the end of the 19th century by the merchant Hoge. The three-story , five-axis house has a facade in the neo-renaissance style . The ground floor is designed with plaster bands, the two upper floors are made of brick with plastered structure.
The left, slightly forward, wide window axis crowns a gable , the three right axes are also slightly forward; the middle of these three axes is provided with a bay window and crowned by a dwelling .
At the end of the 1970s, the storage rooms on the ground floor were redesigned by Polish builders. In 1978 the restaurant “Gedania” opened. The building was renovated in 1994 and 1995. In 1997 the restaurant “Brasserie” was opened.
The house is located in the core area of the city area recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage site of the “ historic old towns of Stralsund and Wismar ”. It is entered in the list of architectural monuments in Stralsund with the number 593.
