The Neue Südfriedhof in Munich was laid out in 1977 by landscape architect Gottfried Hansjakob in the somewhat angular construction typical of that time. In view of the scarcity of grave sites in the Perlacher Forst cemetery , another burial site was needed for the south and east of Munich. With around 9800 grave places, the 35.6 hectare cemetery on Hochäckerstraße in Munich- Perlach is one of Munich's major cemeteries.
