Christian Friedrich Bernhard Augustin

Christian Friedrich Bernhard Augustin (born November 28, 1771 in Gröningen , † September 1, 1856 in Halberstadt ) was a Protestant theologian, writer and historian.

Life

Augustin attended schools in Halberstadt and Wernigerode . From 1790 he studied Protestant theology and history at the Friedrichs University in Halle . He joined the Märkischer Kränzchen . Following his studies, he became a teacher at the cathedral school in Halberstadt in 1797, then cathedral preacher, and since 1824 chief cathedral preacher in Halberstadt. He earned his academic doctorate in theology and philosophy and was honored as a member of various societies with several awards.

Augustin was a member of the Halberstadt Literary Society, which existed from 1785 to 1810 .

He was an avid collector, especially with his numerous theological and historical writings. For years in Halberstadt, it was the focus of efforts to research history there. In doing so, he also amassed an impressive library. From 1801 to 1810 he edited the "Gemeinnützigen Unterhaltungen", published especially for history and regional studies, and in 1821 the "Halberstädtische Blätter". His remarkable Luther collection was acquired by Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia for the Wittenberg Luther House . Count Botho zu Stolberg Wernigerode acquired his extensive archaeological collection. In 1832 he became an honorary citizen of Halberstadt .
