New Herwegshaus
Neues Herwegshaus is the historical name for the quarry stone house Burggraben 1 in the Bensberg district of Bergisch Gladbach . The house was in 1761 as a two-storey house with a hipped roof built in five axes. Since 1780 it has been called the “New Herwegshaus between New and Old Castle” after the Cologne patrician and mayor family Herweg, who owned it until 1834. She had other extensive possessions in Bensberg and Moitzfeld . From 1808 the house served as a hospital for French soldiers from the barracks in Bensberg Castle . Around 1900 Friedrich Albrecht set up a grocery store in the building.

The New Herwegshaus in Bensberg, Burggraben 1, was named Monument of the Month in October 2011.
