Building history

The origins of the current New Town Hall go back to the end of the 18th century. At that time it served as a post office, society house and later also as a hotel and was called "Lindenhof". The Grand Duke Friedrich Franz I lived here until 1796. Due to numerous modifications, the original shape can hardly be recognized. Some of the alterations were made by master builder Carl Theodor Severin . In 1952 the Lindenhof became public property . The hotel became the house of friendship and district culture house.

On August 31, 2000, the city representatives decided to use the former district culture house as the town hall and on January 28, 2005 the town hall was inaugurated after many renovations. The building is a historical monument.

Building description

The facade of the three-storey building is characterized by typical classicist features, such as simple belt cornices and decorative elements. In addition to a vaulted cellar, there is also an unfinished attic. The building is divided into two parts, which are arranged in an L-shape. Classic and modern were combined by the restored extension.
