The New Shuamta ( Georgian ახალი შუამთა ; ɑχɑlɪ ʃʊɑmtʰɑ ) is a Georgian Orthodox women's monastery in the Kakheti region , in the Telawis Munizipaliteti .

It is located near the city of Telavi and the Old Shuamta Monastery , on the Ziwgombori mountain , about 1015 m above sea level. A road that ends on the western outskirts of Telavi leads to the monastery complex.

Shuamta means situated between the mountains - which clearly refers to the secluded but picturesque location of the former nunnery in the middle of the Gombori deciduous forests . The monastery was founded in the 16th century when the old Shuamta monastery was deserted. The founders were Levan, King of Kakheti and his wife Tinatin. Tinatin later became a nun and died in the New Shuamta. Her grave is also in the monastery.
